Frederic Remington (1861-1909) was an American painter, sculptor, illustrator, and author who became well-known for his paintings of the American West. Stylizing himself as a "cowboy artist," Remington became one of the most successful artists of his time, capitalizing on public interest in Western Americana when the days of the Old West were fading. Among the subjects he painted were Indigenous Peoples, military battles, and desert landscapes.
