Black cloth-covered boards in a beige paper dust jacket. Gilt lettering on book spine. Black lettering on dust jacket spine. Covers have slightly bumped tips and slight wear to edges, else pristine and intact, binding tight. Dust jacket has age toning, a few small marks and dampstains, slight edge wear, and chipping along corners and edges with the three largest each measuring about 1/2" x 1" (located at head of spine on front outer joint, bottom edges of back panel, and top corner of back fore-edge), else clean and intact, not price-clipped. Dust jacket protected in a paper-backed Mylar sleeve. Pages have light age toning throughout, else pristine and intact. 413 black-and-white plates and illustrations, some of which are folding plates, are in the back. A comprehensive, in-depth study of those exemplars of Renaissance art, Michelangelo's frescoes on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. This is Volume II of a five-volume series, Michelangelo, about the titular artist. Charles de Tolnay (1899-1981) was a Hungarian art historian who specialized in the study of Michelangelo.
