Translated by Ulrike Mills and Eva Zimmerman, edited by Brett Topping, with essays by Sylvia Ferino-Pagden and Maria Kusche. A detailed appreciation of Sofonisba’s life and art, with each work accompanied by descriptive text. Sofonisba was “the first woman painter to achieve fame and respect” and one of the first to be formally educated in art (from Ferino-Pagden’s essay). Although this revolutionary artist was almost forgotten by history, this exhibition ensured to accredit and revere Sofonisba for her talents and accomplishments.
