Notes: Fine, SIGNED, 8vo, 11" x 9 1/4." Multicolored pictorial paper wrappers with light gray lettering on dark gray spine. Covers have light to moderate rubbing and slight wear to extremities, else clean and intact, binding tight. A few pages have small spots of rubbing, else pages pristine and intact. A catalog from SHiNE Art Space, an art gallery on in the M50 District of Shanghai dedicated to showcasing the work of Chinese contemporary artists. The artist featured in this issue is Xiong Lijun (b. 1975), a Chinese painter associated with a movement known as Neo-Pop Art. Xiong grew up in a period of great change in China's history which saw an exponential increase in wealth throughout the country, the introduction of youth and consumer culture, and the opening of doors to influences outside of China. Xiong's paintings reflect this time period as many of her works highlight youth and pop culture in a style influenced by Japanese anime and Western cartoons. Her paintings often depict people with expressive faces striking dramatic poses who are surrounded by emblems of pop culture. Curated by Wu Yin Chang.
