Published in conjunction with a show at The Oakland Museum from October 3 - November 12, 1972. Highlights key works by the Society of Six: William Clap, August Gay, Selden Gile, Maurice Logan, Louis Siegriest, and Bernard von Eichman. The accompanying text goes into great detail on each of the artists. “Influences on the Society of the Six artists ranged from 19th century Impressionism to European abstraction…they nonetheless managed to fashion their individualistic painting styles into a fresh and ingenuous genre that appears generally American and specifically Californian. It is regional painting in the best sense of the word” (from p. 11).
