Autobiographical account by Philip St. George Cooke (1809-1895), a United States Army cavalry officer and Union General who served during the Civil War. Cooke writes about his experiences and historical events that took place in New Mexico and California during the Mexican-American War. During the war, Cooke led the Mormon Battalion from Santa Fe to California. Foreword by Joseph A. Sullivan.
