Notes: Near Fine pictorial exhibition brochure printed on a 24" x 8 1/4" paper folded to 8pp. measuring 6" x 8 1/4", very minor rubbing to fore edge, otherwise clean, sharp, unmarked, and with no tears to folds, eight black-and-white photographs accompany text by co-curator Fernando Castro which includes biographic paragraphs for photographers Miguel Chani (1865-1951), Juan Manuel Figueroa-Aznar (1878-1951), Martin Chambi (1891-1973), Avelino Ochoa (1900-1982), brothers Gilberto (1899-1978) and Crisanto Cabrera (1904-1990), and Sebastian Rodriguez (1896-1968). This exhibition also included the work of Vidal Gonzalez (1919-1988), Jose Gabriel Gonzalez (1900-1978), and Horacio Ochoa (1904-1978). This brochure accompanies the exhibition of the same name held at the Americas Society Gallery, New York, from June 9 to August 10, 1994. From the Americas Society: "[This exhibition] featured some 100 black-and-white photographs by the leading practitioners of the medium working in the southern Andes in the first decades of the twentieth century.These works presented a vibrant image of a nation at the dawn of the modern era – a period in Peru of economic prosperity, social progress and general optimism. Through their varied techniques and subject matter, the photographers included in the exhibition documented a cross-section of Peruvian life, and suggested the complex heritage that shaped a world in the throes of modernization."
