Near fine oblong octavo, brown cloth over board, blind stamped lettering to cover, stamped silver gilt lettering to spine. Minor soiling to bottom text block otherwise binding tight, sharp tips, and no markings throughout. Near fine dust jacket featuring landscape photos to covers, minor shelf wear to tail. 256 pp. replete with black-and-white photography of William Henry Jackson, T. H. O'Sullivan, Wiliam Bell, and Mark Klett. Includes interactive DVD and 43 photographic pairings, documenting two periods of geologic and environmental changes while exploring the changing human perceptions of landscape.  From the dustjacket: "[This book] is an end-of the century geographical exploration patterned after the first surveys of the nineteenth century updated with new techniques and sensibilities. The project presents photographs of historic American Western sites in light of the dynamic nature of and changes to the landscape witnessed since the nineteenth century when [they were] first photographed for the [US] geological and geographical surveys. The Rephotographic Survey Project revisited and rephotographed these sites during the late 1970s, resulting in the monumental Second View, presenting 120 pairs of images."
