Description

Braunfels, Wolfgang, George Braziller, 1968.
English, Near Fine limited edition folio, 14 3/4" x 10 3/4", unpaginated.

Near Fine limited ed. #745 of 1000 copies, Folio, 14 3/4" x 10 3/4", dark red cloth over boards with vellum backstrip titled in gilt, lacks slipcase. Some minor soiling to covers, mild scuffing and fraying to back panel where cloth meets backing, bruised tips. Interior clean, tightly bound. Accompanied by a loosely laid-in Fine pamphlet in stiff gray textured wraps with introductory text by Wolfgang Braunfels. Primarily printed in monotone but includes several full-color pages. A thick, heavy folio, unpaginated. Includes an introductory booklet with text by Wolfgang Braunfels, 24 pp., including errata. Facsimile edition contains two parts: the Biblioteca Documentara Batthyaneum in Alba Julia, Rumania and the Bibliotexa Apostolica Vaticana in Rome with an estimated print date of 810 and presumed to be commissioned by Charlemagne. The two books were separated in the 19th century and reunited in 1965 for an exhibition entitled, "Charlemagne: His Achievements and Influence." 416 pp., including 54 pp. in striking full-color. Overall, a very nice facsimile copy of an ambitious work.
